Fratelli Neri spa put the bow on the towage business offshore. The Company active in the areas of logistics, terminal and harbor towage, has just taken another important step to strengthen its market position in the niche of support vessels to offshore platforms.

From 1 January 2013, in fact, the new supply vessel renamed Nos Taurus, as it is delivered from the shipyard China Shipbuilding Yuexin, has been in operation off the coast of Pozzalo in platform support “Campo Vega” operated by Edison under a two-year contract ( with option to renew for another two). At the end of 2013, however, heats up the contract signed by Fratelli Neri spa with OLT (Offshore LNG Toscana) in 2010 to more supervision and support for Livorno regasification plant, which should be operational in the second half of this year.

Piero Neri, in a rare interview, he reveals that “in the last twelve months, our company has taken delivery of two new offshore supply vessels (Nos. Taurus and LNG Guardian) thus confirming the intention to grow in the services sector offshore platforms. “The entrepreneur then reveals some technical characteristics of the new vessel: “The Nos Taurus, classified by Bureau Veritas register that has also played out surveillance during the phases of construction, has an area of 370 square meters covered, load capacity 7 tons / sqm and a pulling capacity of 67 tons to the fixed point. ” It is a vessel which, in addition to performing the ‘normal’ activities towing, anchor handling and transport of materials, is also classified as pollution control (on board is provided with tools such as the floating booms offshore, a skimmer for collecting more than 200 cubic meters per hour of oil spilled into the sea) capable of intervening to deal with situations of possible spills of pollutants into the sea. “This is a new construction project based on a highly appreciated by the market majors for its reliability and versatility in the performance of services to oil rigs.” Following the launch, which took place on November 14, Nos Taurus has hoisted the Italian flag in China and left immediately for Italy, arriving in Pozzallo around Christmas.

Great satisfaction on the quality of the medium was also expressed by Sten Stromberg, responsible for Edison Campo Vega, who stressed the quality of PSV and opened the possibility of future new jobs in Sicily for the support ships to the platforms.

“Edison – said it Stromberg – has already begun the authorization process for the doubling of this field extraction, which would rise from the current 3,000 to 6,000 barrels / day of production.” This will require a new offshore platform that will require investments in the order of more than € 200 million and could be installed as early as 2015.
